My thesis collection entitled Woven Memories uses traditional weaving techniques and current contemporary practices in textiles to create works that explore themes and personal reflections on nature, landscape, and the natural environment and ecology that surrounds us. Based upon my own research, experiences in nature , and residences that I have been a part of, I have been able to incorporate the threads from my loom to create abstracted and organic textile works that focus on the memories and interpretations of the natural environment. These wall hanging pieces and sculptural designs are made from various weaving techniques and contextualize ideas reminiscent of the natural world. My collection of work considers the use of elements and principles of design, colour, abstraction, and expressive qualities in an organic and intuitive way. Several different wool and cotton yarns are used in many of my works, which lends itself to contrast, scale, and movement in the overall design.
